EYFS
Curriculum Intent
We offer a broad and balanced curriculum that covers and delivers the statutory aspects of the EYFS Framework in addition to other knowledge and skills, to develop the unique, whole child. Our curriculum ensures that all children make good progress in all areas, no matter what their starting point may be in their learning and development. Our curriculum provides opportunity to develop everyday self-help and life skills which will provide children with the independence they will require at different times in their lives. Our curriculum plays an essential role in giving the children the best possible start in life and enable them to reach their full potential.
Curriculum Implementation
Our approach to the early years and the delivery of our curriculum is based upon the 7 areas of learning consisting of 3 prime areas (Communication & Language, Personal, Social and Emotional and Physical Development) and 4 specific areas (Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World & Expressive Arts & Design) We aim to build children’s foundational knowledge and develop executive function. Using the characteristics of effective teaching and learning, pupils are given the opportunity to learn in different ways within the enabling environment. All Early Learning Goals are deliberately planned for/progressed towards throughout the year and opportunities are offered within direct teaching and purposeful provision, alongside our bespoke curriculum. This approach also ensures that learning over time is sequenced effectively and there is progression within the Reception year and then into Year 1. The focus for each cohort of children, are guided by our baseline assessments at the start of each year and continuous assessment throughout the year.
Impact
The impact of our early years curriculum is seen in the strong foundations it creates for future learning. By immersing children in a rich reading spine of carefully chosen, high-quality texts, we introduce key themes that link seamlessly to Year 1 genres. From this shared starting point, every aspect of provision is designed to build knowledge, skills and experiences, ensuring children make excellent progress and transition confidently into Year 1.
